How to spot a good avocado toast
- The avocado should be ripe, not brown. Bright green, creamy, and only just soft. Grey or stringy means it sat out too long.
- The bread should fight back. Proper sourdough or rye, toasted hard enough to hold the avocado without going soggy.
- Salt and acid matter. A squeeze of lime or lemon and enough salt turn avocado from bland to bright.
- Texture is the difference. Something crunchy on top, like seeds, chickpeas or chilli, makes a simple toast memorable.
